Several foreigners from different countries every year register their marriages in Jēkabpils.
A foreigner has the right to enter into a marriage in Latvia if he legally resides in the country at the moment of marriage.
A foreigner can enter into marriage with a citizen of the republic of Latvia or an alien of Latvia, or a foreigner possessing a valid permanent residence permit, or a person recognised homeless in the Republic of Latvia with a valid temporary residence permit.
To register the marriage, the foreigner shall submit documents issued by the competent authority of the respective country confirming that this person does not have obstacles for entering into marriage in the Republic of Latvia.
