Sports is very popular in Jēkabpils. The Daugavsala track provides good training possibilities for car and bike racers. Regular football, volleyball, basketball and handball training takes place in the stadium and the sports centre. The new 3rd secondary school sports hall provides possibilities of training in track and field athletics all year round. Many teenagers develop their skills in table hockey, novus, weightlifting.
Children as well as adults are willing to spend their free time in the carting hall and the swimming pool near the city in Sala municipality.
Jēkabpils sportsmen have considerable achievements in Latvia's as well as international competitions in several kinds of sports – power lifting, darts, track-and-field athletics, bike racing with sidecar, car racing.
