About Jekabpils county:
Jekabpils County was established in 2021. It consists of 3 towns – Akniste, Jekabpils, Viesite – and 22 rural parishes. The municipality is located in the southeastern part of Latvia, on both sides of river Daugava; with part of it in Selija cultural-historical region and part in Latgale. Total area of the county is 2,996 km², and it is home to 41,066 residents. Main forms of entrepreneurship are woodworking, construction and agriculture.
Jekabpils is the largest town in the county, with a population of 22,240, and serves also as it’s administrative center. Town is situated at a crossroads of main national transit railway lines, highways and river Daugava. Town’s symbol is Lynx, in honor of Duke Jakob of Courland and Semigallia, who in 1670 hunted a lynx near the settlement and granted it city rights, naming it Jakobstadt. The town is renowned for the beautiful medieval Krustpils Castle, first mentioned in records in 1237. Another prominent feature of the town's landscape is the Men’s Orthodox Monastery of Holy Spirit of Jekabpils, which dates back to the town's early history. Additionally, several points of the Struve Geodetic Arc, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005, are located within Jekabpils County.

These services cover various areas, including construction, civil status registration, education, real estate, public order, social services, trade, and more. Municipality has 28 educational institutions, 24 culture venues, 10 sports halls and regional hospital.

Milestones achieved
Municipality is currently undertaking its biggest project ever by constructing levee in Jekabpils city to prevent flooding. Total cost - 16 931 290 euros, of which 85% are from European Regional Development Fund, 11,21% - state funding and 3,79% - from municipality.
In July, 2024 Jekabpils county was host for World’s 1st ever Carp fishing Championship for youth U22 in lake Balote, managed by municipality.
